Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer responds to Dean Henderson transfer speculation

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Dean Henderson "wants to stay" at Manchester United despite speculation the goalkeeper is unhappy with his lack of game time.

Henderson, 23, signed a new long-term deal at Old Trafford last summer after two successful seasons on loan at Sheffield United.

But the England shot-stopper has made just three appearances this season - two in the Carabao Cup and one in the Champions League.

Henderson remains firmly behind No. 1 David de Gea in the pecking order and is well aware his spot in Gareth Southgate's squad for next summer's Euros may rely on him playing regularly.

Leeds and Brighton are reportedly keen on a loan swoop for the Three Lions star, but Solskjaer maintains Henderson is happy with his current status at United.

“I have been very happy with the competition from Dean. He has not put a foot wrong," the Red Devils boss told reporters ahead of Tuesday's clash with Istanbul Basaksehir.

Solskjaer also pledged that Henderson will have further opportunities over the hectic festive period.

He added: “Dean wants to stay at Man United and play for Man United.

"I can’t see the logic in only one more appearance before Christmas. Do you know how many games we have?

"He is training well, he has potential to be one of the best. I don’t buy the argument it (whether he plays against Istanbul Basaksehir) is make or break from him.”

United host Super Lig champions Basaksehir in the Champions League with revenge in their sights after they were beaten 2-1 in the Turkish capital earlier this month.

Henderson was handed the gloves for that match, though De Gea started the other Group H ties against Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig.

Spain international De Gea has also started all eight of United's games in the Premier League this season.
