Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cites missed chances and penalty calls when quizzed on VAR after Arsenal draw

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cited missed chances, and a penalty decision that didn’t go Manchester United’s way, after their 1-1 draw with Arsenal .

Man Utd were leading 1-0 at the start of the second half after Scot McTominay’s first goal at Old Trafford when a penalty call went beginning in the first ten minutes of the restart.

VAR did not overrule referee Kevin Friend’s decision despite Sead Kolasinac having appeared to handle the ball in the penalty area, and that call would become doubly-sickening when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the equaliser sever minutes later.

That goal was originally ruled offside before the video referee’s intervention - something the United boss was quizzed on after the game.

"It was the right decision by VAR - but maybe we could’ve had a penalty as well?"

As vexed as he may have been by the penalty decision, Solskjaer was equally left contemplating his team’s inability to double their lead.

"I thought how many times have we been 1-0 up and not got the second goal? This is a steep learning curve for us and we'll keep working hard and with more experience, we'll make the right decisions.

"I think the start of the second half we didn’t get out of the blocks quick enough. It felt like Arsenal were the more proactive until they scored their goal.

"I felt we could get a goal at the end and we sent men forward. I‘ve been in that situation as a player when you come off and think you could’ve got more out of a game, but we’ll learn from this."
