Man Utd beat Chelsea, Man City and 'agree transfer' for Penarol's Facundo Pellistri

Manchester United are closing in on the £10m capture of teenager Facundo Pellistri.

The Penarol winger is poised to sign a five-year deal at Old Trafford after the Red Devils beat the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid to his signature.

Pellistri is highly-rated and it has taken a reported £10m to convince the Uruguayan club to sell.

Sport 890's Sebas Giovanelli  understands that a deal is close but the final issue is when the teenager makes his move to the Premier League club.

United are keen to see Pellistri arrive before Monday's transfer deadline whereas Penarol are hopeful of keeping him until January.

A possible solution is loaning him back for several months before welcoming him to Old Trafford in the New Year.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been seeking a wide forward throughout the summer which has been underlined by their pursuit of Jadon Sancho.

Borussia Dortmund though look set to stand firm which means the Englishman could remain in Germany.

Pellestri's age means he is by no means at the level of Sancho so his arrival may not appease fans - or the manager.

Solskjaer and the club have been criticised for their business in recent months with Donny Van de Beek the only major arrival.

"They [United] know my view," said the Norwegian when questioned about United's recruitment.

"The transfer window is still open for a little while. If something happens in or out you will get to know.

"There are many ways of improving a team. I keep reading about the players who should be playing instead of the ones who aren't because they are performing well.

"That tells me I have a strong squad. There is competition for places.

"We need results. That is the only way of affecting the mood at the club - the players and staff. All the rest is short-term moods."

Edinson Cavani is set to sign for United on a free having left PSG in the summer after seven years.

The 33-year-old scored 200 times for the Parisians and is their all-time leading goalscorer.
