Man Utd backed to make top-four charge despite losing ground with Wolves draw

Former Tottenham and Newcastle midfielder Jermaine Jenas thinks there is still all to play for in the battle for Champions League qualification, and backed Manchester United to pick up their form and make a solid bid for fourth spot.

United were held to a goalless stalemate by Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday, but fourth-placed Chelsea also dropped points with a 2-2 draw against Leicester.

The result means United have won just once in their last five Premier League games, and they remain in seventh place, six points behind the Blues.

But with the likes of Tottenham, Sheffield United and Wolves also in contention for fourth spot, Jenas believes there are plenty more twists and turns to come.

Writing in his column on BBC Sport, Jenas said: "The defeat (to Tottenham) saw Manchester City lose more ground on leaders Liverpool, and the only real race left at the top of the table is the one for the top four.

"It is wide open at the moment- one minute Wolves look like they might be serious contenders, then Sheffield United and now Tottenham. Manchester United might come back and have another run at it too.

"They are all having a go, but essentially it all depends on Chelsea and Leicester now. The Foxes have had a bit of a wobble but I still think they are too far ahead of fifth place to be caught.

But Chelsea's draw with Leicester means United are still only six points off fourth (PA)

"Chelsea, however, have a genuine problem. They seem unable to hold on to leads, home or away, and we have seen the first bit of friction from their manager Frank Lampard with regards to the transfer window and him not getting what he wanted."

There are some key fixtures in the race for Champions League qualification coming up, with Chelsea's next two games home matches against first United on Monday February 17 and then Spurs on Saturday 22.
