Man Utd are halfway to granting Bruno Fernandes's two wishes

Bruno Fernandes has had one of his contract demands answered, but is still waiting for Manchester United to deliver on one more of his wishes.

The Portuguese midfielder has been a key player for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 and has been in fine form this season.

Fernandes has scored 27 goals and registered 17 assists in all competitions in 2020/21, demonstrating his significant value to the Red Devils.

It has been reported that United are looking to offer the former Sporting midfielder a new contract and he may well feel inclined to take up this offer after striker Edinson Cavani extended his Old Trafford stay by a further season.

Convincing Paul Pogba to remain a United player could now be key to Fernandes agreeing fresh terms, having recently expressed his desire for both Cavani and Pogba to commit to the club.

Speaking to United's official club website, Fernandes said: “They are really important for us and the qualities they have – it is difficult to find on the market for a good price.

“I think everyone knows that the team is growing with their help, and it’s important for us to keep our best players and keep improving as a team.”

Pogba is out of contract at Old Trafford next summer, presenting the Red Devils with a difficult decision to make.

United must either cash in on the Frenchman in the upcoming transfer window or face the prospect of the 28-year-old leaving the club on a free transfer in 2022.

Pogba's controversial agent Mino Raiola recently discussed the future of his client and refused to rule out the idea of a possible exit.

"With Pogba, what's really important too is what Manchester United want, what project they are proposing for Pogba," Raiola told Spanish sports newspaper AS.

"Pogba has always been interested in one thing, winning the Champions League, titles, that's his objective. And we'll see if that's possible at United or at other big European clubs.
