Man Utd appoint coach who has learned under Marcelo Bielsa and Brendan Rodgers

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly added Englishman Martyn Pert to his Manchester United coaching staff.

Training Ground Guru claim that Solskjaer has added the former Vancouver Whitecaps assistant to his backroom team, which recently saw the departure of Jose Mourinho's former goalkeeping coach Emilio Alvarez.

A sports science specialist, Pert has picked up a wide array of experience across several roles around the globe, working the Bahrain national team, Coventry City, Cardiff City and briefly with Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

He was assistant to former Wales international midfielder Carl Robinson in Vancouver for four years until both were sacked in October 2018.

Pert also learned at the feet of Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa during a trip to Rosario in Argentina in 2016.

“We spent all day talking about football,” Training Ground Guru report him as saying.

“Well, I wouldn’t say I did much talking. I asked questions and he did the talking, which is the right thing to do. He’s one of the top coaches in the world and his passion for the game is incredible.”

Solskjaer confirmed the departure of Alvarez , the last remaining member of Mourinho's staff, over the weekend.

“I would like to thank Emilio for all his help and hard work since my return to the club," said the Norwegian.

"We all wish him well for the future."

Alvarez added: "I will always be proud of belonging to this club. Wishing you every success in your endeavours.”

It isn;t clear if Pert will be taking up a role on United bench or if he will be behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer's side entertain Arsenal in the Premier League on Monday night, seeking to move up from 11th place in the table.
