Man Utd and Man City 'target Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez' amid contract wrangle

Manchester United and Manchester City have both made Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez a transfer target amid his ongoing contract wrangle.

The Spanish midfielder is under contract for another six years at his current club, but that has not stopped tensions arising between his camp and Atletico chiefs.

Niguez is quickly becoming one of the top central midfielders in Europe, and Atletico are keen to tie him down to an improved deal.

But the 25-year-old has snubbed the offer which was put forward last summer and has seemingly no intention on putting pen to paper.

Talks between Atletico and Niguez are said to be a long way off, and Mundo Deportivo report that United are now looking to swoop in.

Niguez recently played a big hand in Atletico's Champions League win over Liverpool, scoring the winner in the first leg and featuring in the victory at Anfield.

The Red Devils are said to be considering triggering Niguez's £137.6 million release clause, but City are also keeping tabs on his situation.

United are open to the fact they could lose Paul Pogba this summer, but want an elite-level replacement lined up if the Frenchman departs.

Both Real Madrid and Juventus are interested in Pogba, though United are demanding £180million for his services.

Should they receive that amount it would offset the cost of signing Niguez, with some change to spare.

Meanwhile United are closing in on another transfer target, Birmingham City starlet Jude Bellingham.

The 16-year-old has become the most sought-after talent in British football.

Borussia Dortmund were front-runners to sign Bellingham, but United now look to be winning the race, having already shown the youngster and his family around their training base.

United are said to be preparing a £30million package to complete the transfer in the summer when Bellingham will be able to sign his first professional contract following his 17th birthday.
