Man Utd and Man City's trading transfer targets ahead of triple chase this summer

Manchester United and Manchester City both enter the summer transfer window with strengthened determination this year.

With each side fresh from European final heartache, Pep Guardiola and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will want to bolster their weaker areas and right the wrongs of the past week.

And it seems as though, once again, the two Manchester clubs share common targets in Harry Kane, Declan Rice and Jack Grealish.

The Spurs striker put every top European club on red alert with his recent comments, not least of all United and City. Realistically, along with Chelsea, these three are the only Premier League clubs who could afford the Premier League frontman.

Declan Rice has also emerged as a player wanted by both clubs. For United, a central midfield player that can take on the defensive responsibilities on his lonesome would free up selection space for Solskjaer. Two holding players, such as Scott McTominay and Fred, are not needed against lower league opposition.

For City, Rice would be the perfect Fernandinho replacement and share first team responsibilities alongside Rodri.

As for Grealish, United were out-priced last summer and opted for Donny van de Beek. Should Paul Pogba leave then there's room for the England international to arrive.

In terms of who goes where it's anyone's guess - but history has proven City have often got the best deal, even when they've lost out.

Alexis Sanchez, Fred and Harry Maguire were all City targets who ultimately moved to United. Sanchez's transfer was a disaster while the fact United are targeting Rice tells you all you need to know about Fred.

Who will Man Utd and Man City sign this summer? Comment below.

Maguire has been a solid signing for United, despite the hefty price tag. But even then City ended up signing Ruben Dias for £20million less as a result of missing out on the England centre-back.

And, ironically, United passed up on the chance to sign the Portuguese defender two years before he joined their rivals. Jose Mourinho shortlisted the centre-back but Ed Woodward vetoed almost all of his suggestions. Dias was voted the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year two weeks ago.

Ilkay Gundogan was also a target for the Red Devils, with it even reported United were on the verge of agreeing a £21.5million deal back in 2015.

The move fell apart and City swooped a year later. Gundogan has now won three Premier League titles at the Eithad.

Ahead of the transfer window's opening, United will be hoping their luck will change as they prepare to trade transfer targets with their bitter rivals once again.
