The coronavirus pandemic has seen football's calendar have to adapt with huge knock on affects.
The current Premier League season will resume in mid-June with September 12 pencilled in as the start date for the 2020-21 campaign.
That is just two weeks after the provisional date for the Champions League Final.
City could well be the sole English representative in Europe's premier club competition come the quarter-final stage with Chelsea needing to overturn a three goal deficit at Bayern Munich.
Pep Guardiola's side have a 2-1 lead over Real Madrid with the second-leg of their round of 16 tie still to play.
But Riyad Mahrez is confident they can finally crack the tournament the club craves.
He said:“We have the team, the manager, we have everything — we are good enough to win it.”
City's rivals Liverpool however will enjoy over six weeks between the final league game of this season and the beginning of the defence of their title.
Manchester United could face a similar issue to their neighbours with the Europa League Final potentially taking place on August 25.
That would give them slightly longer to recover than City, but still presents several issues.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have a 5-0 first-leg advantage over LASK and look set to make the last eight.
Wolves are also in the Europa League and could also face a shortened pre-season should they make the final.
