Man Utd and Chelsea 'given boost' in Ben Chilwell pursuit as Leicester miss top four

Ben Chilwell is reportedly set on leaving Leicester City after the Foxes suffered a late-season collapse and failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Leicester seemed assured of a top-four finish heading into the second half of the campaign, sitting in third place eight points clear of rivals Chelsea and 14 ahead of United by late January.

But Brendan Rodgers' side only won three more games for the remainder of the season and defeat to United on the final day saw them finish in the Europa League spots.

And failure to finish in the top four will also cost Leicester the chance to persuade Chilwell to stay at the King Power.

That's according to The Sun, who report that the long-term Chelsea and United target is set on cementing himself as England's first-choice left-back ahead of next summer's Euros.

Without Champions League football, Chilwell is increasingly convinced he must move away from Leicester to one of his two suitors, who both qualified for the tournament.

However, Foxes boss Rodgers insisted the 23-year-old was not for sale earlier this month.

He said: “He’s [Chilwell's] not a player we want to lose. I’m quite relaxed on it. I’m not worried at all.

“We’ve got a fantastic squad that we want to keep together so I don’t worry.

“You can spin it whichever way you want. There is no intention to sell Ben Chilwell and there is absolutely no need for us to sell Ben Chilwell.

“If you want a message, the message is he’s not for sale.”

Chilwell made 33 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring three goals and assisting four times.

Elsewhere, Leicester have opted not to sign Wolves defender Ryan Bennett permanently.

Bennett spent the season on loan with the Foxes, but they will activate a clause to sign him for £5million.
