Man Utd and Barcelona target Matthijs de Ligt won’t rush decision as Cristiano Ronaldo joins charm offensive

Manchester United target Matthijs de Ligt says there will be no quick decision over his future and will take a break after losing the Uefa Nations League Final with Netherlands .

The Ajax defender has been heavily linked with a move to Man Utd, though the club hierarchy have all but accepted that he will be a Barcelona player come the start of the season.

De Ligt was at fault in the build-up to the only goal in last night's Nations League final, with Goncalo Guedes sliding the ball through his legs before finishing first time following a one-two with Manchester City's Bernardo Silva.

Asked where he will be playing his club football next season, the 19-year-old said: "I don't know, I don't know.

"Now I am going on vacation and I just take a rest, relax and then I will see.

"When you rest, you have enough time to think so that's good."

He will have one more opinion to ponder following the final after the Dutchman revealed Portugal captain and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo told him to move to the Serie A side.

"That could well be true," De Ligt told Dutch outlet NOS. "What I answered? I didn’t understand him at first. So I said… no, I didn’t say anything."
