Man Utd and Arsenal target Thomas Partey "wants to play in England" says father

Thomas Partey would be interested in a move to England if the chance arises, according to the Atletico Madrid midfielder's father.

The 25-year-old is thought to be a target for Premier League duo Arsenal and Manchester United this summer, with both clubs looking to improve in midfield before next season.

The Ghana international enjoyed a successful campaign for Diego Simeone's side, making 42 appearances in all competitions this campaign and finding the net three times.

Although Partey is under contract in Madrid until 2023, his agent has put teams on alert after revealing last month that the midfielder has a £43.5 million release clause .

And his father, Hon Adjiingo, claims that the player would like the opportunity to play in England.

"I personally told him to move on, if he is not wanted at where he is right now," he told Enigye FM , via Ghana Web .

"Because he might be wanted at somewhere else and so he will like to move to England if he gets the chance."

Partey is currently preparing to represent Ghana in this year's Africa Cup of Nations and could see his stock rise even further with some good displays in Egypt.

But the midfielder has previously admitted that he is in no rush to leave Atletico this summer while he continues to play regular football.

"It's hard for me to talk about transfers because the next minute it will be like 'Thomas is trying to leave' but for me playing football is what makes me happy," he told BBC Sport last month .

"I keep saying I am lucky to be at this level now because I know people who play harder and worker harder than me but are nowhere close to being here.

"I don't know what the future holds for me but as long as I play and they are happy with me here then there is no need flirting with others.

"So the only thing that would make me unhappy will be not playing.

"I think most footballers can understand that not playing is the greatest torture any professional footballer can go through."
