Man Utd and Arsenal on transfer alert as Bayern Munich 'set Jerome Boateng price tag'

German giants Bayern Munich have revealed their asking price for veteran defender and 2014 world champion Jerome Boateng.

It has become clear that Niko Kovac will remain as Bayern boss for the upcoming season, which could spark the end of Boateng's eight year stay at the Allianz Arena after a brief spell with Manchester City .

The 30-year-old blew off some steam after a personally frustrating season, accusing the Bayern leadership and the coach for not keeping their word.

According to Bild , Bayern President Uli Hoeness had previously stated at their double celebration: "I would recommend to leave the club. I think he needs a new challenge."

Under Kovac, the Germany international has missed 11 Bundesliga games, spending each game on the bench for 90 minutes.

In important games in the second half of the season Boateng found himself as second choice, the defender admitted: "Since then I felt [I had] no chance, because I could turn myself upside down and play well, I was still out in certain games."

Boateng's contract isn't up until the end of 2021 with the Bavaria club, but is now available for around £20 million.

In 2018, a switch to Paris had been tipped, with a 32 million Euro offer tabled by PSG before Bayern upped their asking price wanting at least 38 million Euros.

Prior to the transfer being completely rejected.

After the signings of Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez, the competition for a defensive spot this coming season is even tougher.

It will come to negotiations and potentially a bidding war between Manchester United and Arsenal .
