Man Utd 1-3 Chelsea: Player Ratings as David de Gea endures FA Cup semi-final nightmare

Chelsea booked their place in the FA Cup Final with a convincing victory over Manchester United at Wembley.

The Blues ran out 3-1 winners to ensure they face Arsenal on August 1, with goals from Olivier Giroud, Mason Mount and an own goal from Harry Maguire.

United struggled throughout, on a day when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left in-form Anthony Martial on the bench, alongside Paul Pogba, and changed formation to three at the back.

Giroud opened the scoring in the 11th minute of first-half injury time - after a lengthy display following a serious head injury to Eric Bailly.

A David de Gea error saw Mason Mount double the Blues lead in the second period, before Maguire's own goal made it 3-0.

Bruno Fernandes struck a late penalty consolation for United, as Solskjaer's men suffered a first defeat in 19 games.

Here are player ratings from Wembley...

Manchester United

David De Gea 3

Two absolute howlers. Big errors on two goals. Not the keeper he was.

A dreadful day for the Spaniard (PA)

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 6

Good, tenacious full back but must improve passing and distribution.

Eric Bailly 5

Went off with a sickening clash of heads, looked really nasty. Pray he’s ok.

Victor Lindelof 5

Poor defending on Chelsea's opening goal, got the wrong side of Giroud.

Harry Maguire 5

Nasty clash of heads with Bailly, played on but put through his own net.

Brandon Williams 5

Back from injury himself, his sloppy pass let in Mount on second goal.

Fred 4

Disappointing performance, ran around like a headless chicken, no authority.

Nemanja Matic 5

Just as everyone was raving about him… he has a little dip in form. Looked tired.

Bruno Fernandes 5

Looks jaded, did not affect the game, kept his head for late penalty.

Not at his best (2020 Pool)

Daniel James 5

A surprise pick and even though his pace was a threat did not do enough.

Marcus Rashford 6

United constantly looked to him for inspiration but could not deliver this time.

Subs used: Martial 5 (Bailly, 45'), Greenwood 5 (James 55'), Pogba 6 (Fred, 55'), Ighalo (Rashford 79') Fosu-Mensah (Wan-Bissaka 79')

Subs Not Used: Romero, Pereira, Mata, McTominay

Chelsea

Willy Caballero 6

One fairly comfortable tip over the crossbar from Fernandes’ free kick. Quiet.

Reece James 7

Got forward well, unleashed a long range shot and showed good energy.

Cesar Azpilicueta 7

His cross and assist for Giroud’s opener and playing in this system worked for him.

Antonio Rudiger 7

Back to his best form as he looked secure and strong, plus aware of danger.

Kurt Zouma 7

Basically brought in whenever Chelsea need a no-nonsense defender. Good at that.

Marcos Alonso 7

Operating as left wing back gives him licence to get forward, assist on third goal.

Jorginho 7

Now getting some minutes again, did really well at closing down space.

Mateo Kovacic 7

Very effective for Chelsea, after a recent dip, reminded us of his importance.

An important display from the Croatian (PA)

Mason Mount 7

Scored second goal, a low speculative shot but won the lottery with de Gea howler.

Willian 8 MOTM

Hard working, ran the channels and tireless in his work. Very effective.

Olivier Giroud 7

Bullied United’s defence, scored the opening goal and provided real attacking threat.

Subs Used: Abraham (Giroud 80'), Hudson-Odoi (Willian 80'), Loftus-Cheek (Kovacic 87') Pedro (Mount 90')

Subs Not Used: Kepa, Christensen, Tomori, Emerson, Pulisic
