Man United youngster Charlie Wellens added to FIFA 22 for first time as rating confirmed

Manchester United academy prospect Charlie Wellens has been added to the Man United squad on FIFA 22 for the very first time in the latest squad update.

Despite being just 19 years old, Wellens has been a regular for the Man United U23 side in the Premier League 2 this season. The versatile defender has made 21 appearances in the league, grabbing six assists and scoring once, along with making three appearances in the EFL trophy.

Following his impressive season for the U23's so far, Wellens has now been added to Man United's FIFA 22 squad, the first time he's featured on an EA Sports FIFA title. The Englishman has played predominantly at right-back this season, though his ability to play more advanced on the right and centre of midfield makes him an attractive prospect for the future.

The latest FIFA 22 squad update was released on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, and is now available to download on all platforms including PC, Xbox and PlayStation. Along with the addition of Wellens, a host of changes have been made to the United squad.

So, what does Charlie Wellens FIFA 22 stats look like? Let's take a look.

Charlie Wellens in FIFA 22

Charlie Wellens current and potential rating on FIFA 22 (EA SPORTS FIFA)

Overall rating: 60/99

Overall Potential : 78/99

Positions: RB, RM

Weak Foot: Three-Star

Skill Moves: Two-Star

Work Rate: Medium/Medium

Due to his age and inexperience at a high level, Wellens is rated just 60 overall out of 99 in FIFA 22, making him the joint second-lowest rated player at the club. Fellow youth players Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage are also rated 60 overall, whilst Will Fish and D'Mani Meller are rated 59 overall.

Despite currently being just 60 overall, EA has taken note of the potential ability that the defender has, giving the 19-year-old a potential rating of 78 out of 99. When compared to first-team players at United, Wellens' potential is higher than the current ratings of Juan Mata (76), Phil Jones (74) and Anthony Elanga (70), and the same rating as Eric Bailly (78) and Diogo Dalot (78) if he was to hit his potential.

Wellens' potential is also the same as the potential rating of Björn Hardley Savage and Fish, with the trio of youngsters also having a potential rating of 78 of 99. Compared to some of the other young talents at United, their potential ratings are relatively low.

The likes of Hannibal Mejbri, Shola Shoretire and Anthony Elanga have all got much higher potential ratings than Wellens, with the latter's potential 85 out of 99, whilst Mejbri and Shoretire have potential ratings of 84 out of 99. This may be due to the amount of first-team experience that these have had compared to Wellens, with the right-backs potential rating able to increase in the future.

Being just 60 rated, the 19-year-old currently has comparatively low-rated stats. Wellens' best stats are his balance (74), agility (70), sprint speed (69), stamina (69) and acceleration (67), showcasing that his pace and movement are his best attributes. But, should Wellens make his first appearance for United soon, these could be upgraded in a future squad update.
