Man United title chances doubted after Ronaldo transfer as Wan-Bissaka named toughest opponent

Here is your Manchester United morning digest for September 18.

United's title chances doubted

Former Liverpool defender and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher doesn't believe the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo puts United any closer to being genuine title challengers.

The arrival of the 36-year-old has yielded instant results for the Red Devils, with Ronaldo netting three times in his first two games for the club.

Carragher thinks that the forward will be in the running for the Golden Boot in the Premier League this season, but he's cast aspersions over whether or not the Portugal international will take them to top spot in May.

"The broader question for United is whether Ronaldo’s arrival gets them any nearer to being a team that can win the title and Champions League again," he said. "On the evidence of the first few games, albeit they have won three of their first five matches, I would say no."

Wan-Bissaka named as toughest opponent

Although he's endured a tough week after a red card against Young Boys on Tuesday, Aaron Wan-Bissaka can take some comfort from a recent interview featuring Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe.

The Gunners' record signing was asked who is the most difficult defender he has come up against in the Premier League so far and it would seem the United full-back has made a big impression on him.

"I would say Wan-Bissaka," said the Ivory Coast international. "I think he is very strong in both areas."

Zouma previews United's trip to West Ham

New West Ham signing Kurt Zouma has said he is expecting a difficult game when United visit the London Stadium on Sunday.

Zouma moved across the capital to join the Hammers from Chelsea in the previous window and while he's not yet made an appearance for his new club in the Premier League, it would appear he is in contention to start the match this weekend.

"Sunday is going to be a tough game, but hopefully the fans will be behind us and helping us to make sure we get the three points," he said. "It’s going to be a tough game against a very strong side, but we have to keep the same confidence and obviously play our game."
