Man United stars Marcus Rashford and Daniel James exchange amusing Twitter messages

Manchester United stars Marcus Rashford and Daniel James went back and forth in a hilarious Twitter exchange on Monday evening.

The official Manchester United Twitter account published a video compilation of the two forwards linking up throughout the season.

James has provided four assists for the England international in the Premier League this season, the joint most in the league to one scorer alongside Kevin De Bruyne to Sergio Aguero (4) and Emiliano Buendia to Teemu Pukki (4).

The summer signing quote tweeted the video promising there were more assists to come for Rashford but couldn't resist taking a cheeky jab at the forward by replying to the tweet: "What about the one vs Brighton? @MarcusRashford."

James is referring to the game against the Seagulls at Old Trafford earlier in the season when Rashford spurned a golden opportunity following an incisive counter-attack led by the Welshman.

Rashford swiftly responded to his jibe writing: "Thanks for the assists bro" before joking that he had muted his teammate on Twitter with a laughing emoji.

Shortly after, Rashford tweeted again, this time firing back at his teammate. He wrote: "It's all love DJ x" with a picture of James' celebration against Crystal Palace earlier in the season.

The 21-year-old was criticised in some quarters for celebrating an equaliser as Anthony Martial and Rashford urged him to get back into his own half so United could search for a winner.

James responded to the tweet with a GIF.

United fans were in stitches at the Twitter exchange and reacted on social media.

Here is a selection of their responses:
