Man United star Bruno Fernandes backed to persuade Paul Pogba to stay

Paul Pogba can be persuaded to stay at Manchester United after seeing the form of Bruno Fernandes.

Pogba has made no secret of his desire to leave Old Trafford for the second time in his career, and has barely featured this season due to a string of fitness issues.

United coach Michael Carrick on Tuesday claimed the club have a "perfect" midfield blend, with Fernandes, Pogba and Scott McTominay.

Standard Sport understands Jack Grealish and James Maddison are summer targets, along with Donny van de Beek, and Bryan Robson says the signs are promising for his former club.

"The form before the lockdown was certainly encouraging," Robson told Daily Mail. "The indications were that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had got it right.

"Bruno Fernandes has proved a terrific signing. He looks a United player. Great attitude, always on the half turn looking to go forward.

"He's the closest we've had to Paul Scholes for years in terms of technique, how he finds pockets of space and his willingness to get a shot off.

"He gives the side greater balance and threat. When you combine that with Scott McTominay improving plus the prospect of Marcus Rashford returning to fitness. It looks good.

"We've even forgotten about Paul Pogba but he may fancy being part of this squad again once fit. Add two or three signings and United will be in pretty good shape.

"There's been plenty of talk about the likes of Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish and James Maddison so we're looking in the right direction."
