Paul Pogba has explained the benefits of playing under Didier Deschamps with the French national team.
The Manchester United midfielder has enjoyed great success on the international stage with France in recent tournaments, notably winning the 2018 World Cup and playing an instrumental role in that successful campaign, delivering some key performances.
While Pogba is now entering the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, he’s recently described how much he enjoys working with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and it’s fair to speculate this could perhaps see the Frenchman extend his stay in Manchester.
Regardless, Pogba’s attention will be on winning the Europa League for United before he rejoins France’s national team for the European Championship this summer, with the 28-year-old u nsurprisingly announced in their preliminary squad this week.
How would he describe his relationship with Deschamps, though? Pogba has revealed what it's like to play under the French legend.
“If Deschamps pampers me? No (laughs), we have a relationship that was created a long time ago," Pogba told beIN Sport.
"The stick and the carrot should not be forgotten (laughs). He always told me my truths, he always pushed me to play good games, not to overdo it, to just do what I have to do.
"He was always behind me, never gave me gifts, and was always straightforward. He helped me become this leader in the France team, he gave me that confidence. I'm very grateful. I try to give everything back on the pitch."
