Man United receive timely injury boost with key midfielder set to return against Tottenham

Manchester United could have Paul Pogba back for their clash with Tottenham Hotspur in December.

The 26-year-old could be back in action this month after having the cast on his ankle removed this week.

Pogba last played for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at the end of September and has missed eight matches since with a foot injury.

Speaking in October, Solskjaer offered an update on the midfielder's injury.

“I don’t think we’ll see him before December. He’ll be out for a while,” the United manager said. “He needs time to fully recover so I don’t think he will be back before maybe Sheffield United after the international break but probably December before you can see him.”

Asked to clarify what the issue is, Solskjær said: “I’m not a doctor but there is an injury there that needs healing. There’s no use talking about who’s not going to be here for a long time because he’s not going to come on the pitch and help us.

“Paul’s been brilliant and he is the creative midfielder that we need but then it’s up to the others to step up.”

United have coped well despite Pogba's absence, winning five of their last six fixtures in all competitions with Scott McTominay stepping up with some some crucial goals in the victories over Norwich and Brighton.

Although the update comes as good news, the midfielder admitted last week that he will need another two weeks of treatment before he will be back on the field.

"It is the worst," he told RMC Sport earlier this month. "After, it is not easy to see my team-mates go to training or on the field.

"You train inside, you want to return to help your team but when you are injured it is not easy [psychologically]. The most important thing is to heal properly."

"After [the cast comes off], I still have two weeks of rehabilitation."
