Man United news: Erik ten Hag demands squad raise standards in Champions League battle

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has called on his team to “deliver” in the Champions League battle.

The Dutchman has seen his team struggle since they ended the club’s five-year wait for a trophy by winning the Carabao Cup.

They have slipped to fourth after a loss at Newcastle last week and have only won once since lifting silverware at Wembley.

While there have been plenty of positive signs from ten Hag’s team during his first season in charge, inconsistency has proven a major problem.

Beaten 7-0 at Liverpool only days after winning the Carabao Cup, United are far from certain to finish in the top four.

Saturday sees them host relegation-threatened Everton needing a win to keep the pace.

"You have to do it every game. That has to be the standard, you have to do it and that’s the responsibility you have to deliver when playing for Manchester United. You have to be accountable," Ten Hag said.

"It’s about demands. We have to make standards. It’s about culture, you have to do it always. For a player who is at the top, competing for trophies, you have to do it always and be consistent.

"It’s our job to bring that mentality"
