It was a night to forget for England as they lost 2-1 against the Czech Republic.
But while the performance won't have done any favours for the players selected, it may just have been a helping hand for outcast Dele Alli.
The Tottenham midfielder has struggled with injuries of late and was left out of Gareth Southgate's squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers this week.
With the likes of Jadon Sancho, James Maddison and Mason Mount showing excellent form in at club level it does make it difficult for other players to find their way back into the squad, something which Roy Keane alluded to.
During ITV's coverage of the England clash, presenter Mark Pougatch said: “If you’re Lingard or Dele Alli - interesting Dele Alli this week, getting rid of all of his commercial activities, realising that maybe he’s at a bit of a tipping point of his career: ‘hang on a second, I was the bright young thing at Tottenham and England and that’s not the case any longer’.”
To which the former Man United captain replied: "Yeah, we saw the signs with one or two of these young players you mentioned who have disappeared."
Talking about Alli's decision to cut out his commercial commitments,, Keane added: “They should have done that about a year ago. And they mightn't get a chance to get back in [now] - that’s what happens in football.
“Timing, these young lads in England, take your opportunity and let these lads fall by the wayside.”
