Man United jibes have come full circle but Liverpool won't have any sympathy

What a night at Anfield it was on Tuesday against Manchester United. Five shots on targets, four goals - you can't complain with that.

It was a big game for us because Mo Salah got a couple of goals and, as a striker, that doesn't half help. It takes all the stress and anxiety out of you because you're worrying about every game until you score next. He will feel a lot better now having scored those two goals, without a doubt.

In terms of the two teams on the pitch, they are miles apart. Manchester United are somewhere around where we were when Hicks and Gillett took over and Roy Hodgson was in charge. I won’t be crying about their position as their fans thrust it down our throats for years when Ferguson was there.

HAVE YOUR SAY: Rate the Liverpool players after 4-0 Man Utd win

I actually said it years ago when Ferguson was still there, this was always going to happen. We’ve got to make sure we don’t suffer the same fate when Jurgen goes from Liverpool, which can happen with any club. Leadership is so important and we are where we are because of the manager, he has just been amazing with what he has done for the club on and off the pitch.

United, on the other hand, are just a mess in every sense of the word. They have too many individuals and Old Trafford probably needs £500million spending on it, but the Glazers will probably touch it up and paper over the cracks. From a Liverpool point of view, we are happy to see them languishing as they rammed it down our throats and their time has come now. It is up to them to get out of their predicament, it took us some time.

Not one of their players would get in our team. If Ronaldo was in our squad and could mould into our eleven, he is probably the only one who could possibly get in. That is where they are right now. Don’t forget, they haven’t been the best team in Manchester for nearly ten years now.

Thiago is a special, special player

Thiago has been unfortunate like Keita, in the sense that he has never had a real run of games and has broken down too many times. Everyone knows the class he has, I remember when he first came on against Chelsea on his debut at Stamford Bridge and his quality was never in doubt. Sometimes you’ve got to get used to a league, he’s not played in the Premier League before. With him playing games continually and being managed on the pitch better by the manager and the squad, Klopp can rest him when he needs to.

His range of passing is ridiculous at times and the way he sends people the wrong way... he sent me the wrong way and I was in the stands! When someone closes him down, he sticks his body out and he’s gone. He has eyes in the back of his head and he’s just a great player. He reminds me of a player from the 60s or 70s.

He has got to be given the lease to go forwards as he is the one who can open teams up. There is no doubting he has grown in confidence. Sometimes you doubt yourself when you don’t get a run of games and he has had a lot of stop-start periods. All of a sudden, he has got his mojo and he should never doubt his talent because he is such a fantastic player. Tuesday was probably his best game for Liverpool in many ways.
