Man United have already been told Mauricio Pochettino's qualities by Tottenham's Harry Kane

Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly keen on taking over manager duties at Manchester United.

United confirmed the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday following an extremely poor run of form.

Our sister title Manchester Evening News now report that the Red Devils are confident of appointing Pochettino as the Norwegian's replacement.

Paris Saint-Germain are understood to be demanding £10million in compensation for Pochettino, who wants to join United straightaway.

United paid Solskjaer £7.75million in compensation, so the cost of the managerial change would be just shy of £18m, with other United coaching departures expected to accommodate any new staff Pochettino would bring in.

The club had previously suggested that they were keen on appointing an interim manager until the end of the season, but with news of Pochettino's availability surfacing, it looks as though they've considered changing their approach.

If United do succeed in their attempts to lure the Argentine to Old Trafford, they will inevitably be encouraged by what one of his former star players, Harry Kane, has had to say about him in the past.

Speaking about Pochettino during an interview with Standard Sport earlier in the year, the England captain said: "We got so close to winning it [Champions League]. I would love to see him win it [with PSG last season].

"We had a great relationship. He is a great person, a great friend.

"He was the boss, the leader, the one that set the standards in how we played and how we trained. So friendship would never get in the way of what he did on the football side of things.

"But we became friends in that the things we did and talked about went beyond football."
