Man United finish ahead of Liverpool in 'league table' for all the wrong reasons

Football predictions can be tricky. But are Manchester United fans the Premier League's most overly optimistic when it comes to their own team?

Ask Kopites if they reckon United supporters can sometimes be deluded and the likely reply would be "Do bears, erm, wear a pointy hat?" Or something like that...

But there is statistical evidence to prove that the Old Trafford faithful are amongst the country's, let's say, most hopeful fans.

Thepools.com's free to enter footie5 game asks fans to predict the outcome of five fixtures every Saturday, or even switch the fixtures to ones punters feel more confident about predicting the outcome of.

And unsurprisingly Manchester City are top of the list of Teams Selected To Win, with 92.8% of punters predicting Pep Guardiola's side to win every week.

But with a club record 13 consecutive Premier League victories to their name you'd surely expect Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool to be second. Wouldn't you?

Wrong!

Manchester United are next in the list with 89.17% of punters predicting victory for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

That's the same Manchester United who have drawn at Wolves and Southampton this season, and ended last term - and who didn't win any of their last SIX matches of last season!

What's that old saying about 'fools and their money?'

Liverpool come third in the list, with 87.65% of punters tipping the Reds to win on their footie5 app, while Leeds United (82.93%), Bradford City (75.64%) and Chelsea (73.53%) are all next.

The team selected the least to be victorious?

No surprise there with Bolton Wanderers tipped just 2.27% of the time to triumph.
