Man United favourite Dimitar Berbatov casts doubt on Cristiano Ronaldo to Man City transfer

Former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov does not believe Cristiano Ronaldo will sign for Manchester City this summer, as he does not think he will pair well with Pep Guardiola.

Ronaldo has been heavily linked with a move away from Juventus, and it is believed that 'super-agent' Jorge Mendes has been shopping his services around Europe's top clubs.

Since reports came out on Sunday suggesting Ronaldo asked Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri start him as a substitute in their 2-2 draw away to Udinese, the rumour mill has accelerated, with City the most likely destination at this stage.

As a result of Harry Kane's clarification on his immediate future at Tottenham, City will have to refocus their ambitions of landing a striker. At this stage, it appears the one-time United icon is a name near the top of their list.

If there is one thing Berbatov is pretty certain about, it is that he does not expect Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford this summer — nor does he think he'll end up at the Etihad Stadium.

"I don't think Cristiano Ronaldo likes to go to the teams where he has played before," the Bulgarian told Betfair.

"I know from having shared a dressing room with Ronaldo that he always likes to challenge himself and face new things to see if he can overcome them.

"That's what makes him so unbelievable. If he wants a new challenge, I don't see him going back to United.

" Manchester City have been linked with him and, now that they won't be signing Kane, they are probably looking at other options in attack.

"Ronaldo would be a good fit at Man City but do I see him going there? I doubt it. He is still one of the best in the world, but Pep Guardiola's philosophy might not suit them signing Ronaldo.

"With his history with United, I don't see him gaining anything by going to City."

The Bulgarian fancies Ronaldo to link up with the newly-assembled super-team in Paris to play with Lionel Messi, which would certainly be an interesting story if the two rivals paired up at Paris Saint-Germain.

"It's not impossible that Ronaldo will join Lionel Messi in Paris because PSG can afford anyone they want," the ex-Spurs man claimed.

"Those two players are the greatest players of our generation, if not of all time, but when you put incredible players together sometimes, it doesn't work out. Egos can complicate things in football.

"That said, when you near the end of your career, you become wiser and play for the team more, so maybe they could play well together. Age is just a number for them.

"It would be a crazy thing to see. I think there is something brewing there. Make it happen, PSG."
