Man United fans will love Rio Ferdinand's response to Liverpool FC icon's Van Dijk claim

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has superbly responded to a claim that Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is a better player than he was.

The comment came from former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler, who controversially suggested that Van Dijk is a superior defender - despite the clean sweep of honours that Ferdinand boasted in his career.

“He was won everything up at Celtic, regardless of what league. I love Rio, I think he’s brilliant, but now I’ll say Van Dijk.”

It did not take long for Ferdinand to respond to the claim, as he quickly took to social media to issue a reply that United fans will love - using a flurry of emojis to get his point across.

Ferdinand posted six trophies, displaying the vast array of honours he won in his career, along with a pair of eyes and a thumbs up - making it clear what he thought without using many words.

The statement from Fowler was dismissed by former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen, who responded: “I think people forget how good Rio was, he was an absolute machine. Van Dijk is on his way to being there but, at the moment, he hasn’t won anything yet so I have to say Rio.”
