Man United fans slam summer transfer decision after Tammy Abraham scores for Chelsea

Tammy Abraham opened the scoring against Southampton on Sunday to continue his fine form for the Blues.

The deft lob over Angus Gunn was the forward's eighth Premier League goal in eight appearances this season, and nine in 11 in all competitions, and the 22-year-old now sits joint-top of the scoring charts alongside Manchester City's Sergio Aguero.

Abraham's fine form has seen him earn a recall to Gareth Southgate's England squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

After the Southampton match, Abraham spoke about his week to remember and thanked his Chelsea teammates.

“It’s been fantastic. I give it to my teammates, the manager, the staff, everyone who has believed in me, they’re always providing me chances and when you play with such great players, you always get chances," he told Sky Sports.

If it was a good week for the Blues forward, the opposite could be said for his international colleague Marcus Rashford.

The Manchester United forward has not scored a league goal since mid-September, and struggled in the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle - a result which leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side 12th in the table, with no away wins in any competition all season.

And United fans were quick to take to social media after Chelsea's win to bemoan Rashford's poor form in comparison to Abraham, and question the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Inter in the summer.

The Belgian forward was sold for £75m, but United opted against signing a replacement, with Solskjaer admitting the club would rather wait for the right player.

"I can say [I am a striker short], but that was the decision that I made and I made it happily," Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

"When you have players, [they may have] great potential, but Romelu's head was not here for us working forward as a group.

"I don't want to speak too much about other players. I have got lots of respects for Romelu but his time was up here.

"We are very happy with the recruitment we did. Towards the end the right one we just didn't get him over the line.

"You'd rather bite the bullet and wait because you don't want to spend big amounts of money on something that you are not sure of."

It's safe to say that not all United fans agreed with the club's decision.
