Man United fans hope winning trend continues as referee makes long-awaited Old Trafford return

Manchester United will be hoping they can continue their winning form with Szymon Marciniak as the man in the middle.

Atalanta are in town as the Italians look to extend their lead at the top of Group F whilst the Reds look to pick up just their second win of the group stage.

Cristiano Ronaldo netted the winner in a below-par display against Villarreal as they bounced back from a disappointing start to the campaign, which saw Jesse Lingard's late back pass cut out and put into the back of the net to give Young Boys a famous victory.

A win could see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side top the group should Villarreal deny the Swiss side.

The Polish official has taken charge of just one previous United game, his second coming almost six years to the day since the Reds beat CSKA Moscow.

Wayne Rooney scored the only goal as he powered a header home from Lingard's cross as the Reds dominated the Russians but failed to replicate their pressure with the scoreline.

Louis van Gaal was in the managerial hot seat for the visit of the then-Champions of Russia as he selected the likes of Michael Carrick, Memphis Depay, Chris Smalling and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Rooney captained the Reds that night in what proved a tough Champions League group, having suffered defeat to PSV, before beating Wolfsburg and earning a draw in the corresponding fixture with CSKA.

A goalless draw with PSV followed which piled on the pressure for the final group game against Wolfsburg, but the Germans proved too strong winning 3-2 as United dropped down into the Europa League.

Solskjaer will be looking to overcome Atalanta and then hope history doesn't repeat itself.
