Jadon Sancho has been one of the main names talked about so far during the opening weeks of the summer transfer window.
The Borussia Dortmund winger’s form attracted interest from around Europe ahead of the window opening.
Before the window opened, it appeared to be a straight race between Chelsea and Manchester United for the services of the England international.
Frank Lampard is looking to improve his squad this summer, having already added Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
However, in recent weeks it seems that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team have taken the initiative and moved ahead of the Blues in the race.
Reports earlier in the week suggested that Man United were moving closer to a deal with both Dortmund and the player.
But there has been some doubt put on a move due to the Bundesliga club demanding a fee of £108 million for the winger, and the Red Devils reportedly ready to walk away should the asking price not drop.
There is one deal that United have done that could help persuade Sancho to push for the move to United.
It was confirmed on Thursday that Alexis Sanchez has joined Inter Milan from United on a permanent deal.
That means that the number seven shirt at Old Trafford would be available for Sancho should he arrive at the club this summer.
The famous number seven shirt at Old Trafford has previously been worn by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and Eric Cantona.
Should United beat Chelsea to Sancho then he could be the next player to don the number seven at Manchester United.
