Man United chief speaks out on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer future ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has thrown his backing behind manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of his side's clash with Liverpool this weekend.

The Reds head to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon 15 points ahead of their arch-rivals, with Jurgen Klopp's side having won all eight of their Premier League fixtures so far this season.

United's poor run of form has resulted in Solskjaer coming under increasing pressure.

But Woodward has thrown his backing behind his manager, with it believed that he won't be sacked regardless of the outcome on Sunday.

"The middle section of last season, after Ole's arrival, feels most relevant to what we want to achieve and where we want to be," Woodward told staff at the club's annual all-staff meeting.

"We saw a team playing fast, fluid football, with a clear representation of the style and philosophy the manager wants.

"Ole has also instilled the discipline back into an environment where we may have lacked it in recent years.

"He is building a squad that respects the club's history, in which players work hard and respect their team-mates. No-one is bigger than the club."

While the United chief has also hit-back at claims that uneducated football people are making football based decisions at the club.

Woodward has come under intense pressure due to the club's poor recruitment, with many from within the footballing world believing the Old Trafford club should be using the Reds as an example of how to operate off the pitch.

"There is a myth that we have non-football people making football decisions," Woodward added.

"I think that is insulting to the brilliant people who work on the football side in this club."
