As Ole Gunnar Solskjaer racks his brains over what the best solution there is to the Harry Maguire situation, former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has given the Manchester United manager some sage advice.
Maguire's form has hit rock bottom this season, in the wake of his arrest in Mykonos as as he appeals convictions for bribery, aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
His domestic struggles with United were transferred onto the international stage in midweek when he was sent off for England during their Nations League defeat to Denmark.
The red card was the culmination of a display which was uncomfortable to watch by the world's most expensive defender with the growing consensus being that the 27-year-old needs to be taken out of the firing line and rebuild his confidence.
But that may not be an option for Solskjaer as pressure grows on the Norwegian to dig United out of their own collective crisis, with just three points from their opening three matches following some truly desperate performances, particularly in defence.
Maguire remains, on reputation, United's best defender but if he's playing at such a poor level it's also contributing to the Red Devils' failure. Parlour believes Solskjaer needs to take a look at the Arsene Wenger copybook and be a father figure to his captain.
Although Wenger's meticulously attention to detail including tactics, diet and overall preparation earned him the nickname Le Professeur, he also was a fantastic man manager, able to empathise and communicate with world stars as well as promising academy talents.
"Most players would go to the manager if you’ve got problems and Arsene was always very helpful,” Parlour told talkSPORT. "He’d always do the best for the player.
"It’s up to the manager to see in training, and I know they’ve been away on international duty, but if I was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the first thing I’d do when he comes back to the club would be invite him to the office and have a chat with him.
"Get it out of him, ask him how he feels. Most players would say, ‘I’m ok boss’, but hopefully he would come out and open up a little bit to the manager, that’s what you want.
"A lot of the players at Arsenal used to treat Arsene Wenger like their Dad!
"Seriously, guys like Thierry Henry and Roberto Pires, they looked up to him so much and they felt that they would go up to him and ask him about anything.
"Not just about football, if they had problems at home, whatever, and he would always give them the best advice he could give.
"Maybe that’s what Harry Maguire needs from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer."
Solskjaer has already indicated that Maguire could miss this weekend's Premier League fixture with Newcastle United due to a "knock" sustained on England duty.
United have a tough run of fixtures on the horizon as following Newcastle they take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Championship followed by the visit of Chelsea to Old Trafford next Saturday, then RB Leipzig and then a home game against Arsenal on November 1.
