Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals injury boost for Carabao Cup tie against Chelsea

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an injury update, and it's positive news for his side.

David de Gea suffered an adductor injury on international duty for Spain in their European Championship qualifier against Sweden, with Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga replacing him.

Solskjaer admitted that it was bad news in the short term for his side, as the talented goalkeeper is likely to miss their huge clash this weekend against Liverpool.

However, the former United star stated that the 28-year-old's injury is not as bad as first feared, and he could be making a return sooner than anticipated.

"Of course I would like to tell you positive news," Solskjaer told reporters.

"Hopefully we'll see on Sunday who's come through the last two sessions as well. Because there are players here that just started training, just on the verge of coming back or not, so I can't really say.

"I don't expect [De Gea] to play but it wasn't as bad as feared. When I saw the game I thought that's him out until next international break because we've had some long-term muscle injuries but it's not as bad as feared."

United face Chelsea at the end of this month, and the keeper could be back in contention for the Carabao Cup tie at Stamford Bridge.

Sergio Romero will be deputising while De Gea is out, and while the Argentina international has previously played most of United's cup-ties, a spell on the sidelines for De Gea could mean he is rotated in for the game against Frank Lampard's side.
