Man United back in for Eriksen, Arsenal get Smalling competition - latest Premier League rumours

The January transfer window is just around the corner, and there could be plenty of business done by Premier League sides in the New Year.

Liverpool continue to run away with things at the top of the table, but there’s plenty to play for across the rest of the league, and teams will be looking to strengthen ahead of a crucial period.

Here are the latest transfer headlines, rumours and gossip from across the Premier League.

Tottenham train ahead of Bayern Munich

Manchester United to push for Eriksen

Manchester United are to reignite their interest in Christian Eriksen during the January transfer window.

According to 90min.com, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to add the creative midfielder to his squad in a cut-price deal.

Eriksen looks increasingly unlikely to sign a new contract, leaving Tottenham faced with selling him in January or losing him for free in the summer.

With that in mind, Manchester United could swoop in to take the 27-year-old, with their midfield in need of an injection of creativity which the Danish star could provide.

Arsenal face Smalling competition

Arsenal are tracking the progress of on-loan Manchester United defender Chris Smalling but face competition from Inter Milan and Juventus.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a new lease of life on loan at Serie A outfit AS Roma this season.

With no deal in place for a permanent transfer, Arsenal are keen to take Smalling to north London, according to The Mirror, although Juventus and Inter Milan have also been impressed by his performance in Italy.

Roma are believed to be interested in signing Smalling permanently, to further complicate matters, whilst it's unknown whether Manchester United want to reintegrate the Englishman into their plans.

Manchester United to extend McTominay deal

Scott McTominay is to be rewarded by Manchester United for his excellent form with a new contract.

The Scot has established himself as a key member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans following the continued absence of Paul Pogba.

The Sun report that the United hierarchy are set to reward the 23-year-old with a new 60K-a-week contract that will run until 2025.

McTominay has made 18 appearances for Manchester United this season and has formed an unlikely strong partnership with Fred in the heart of midfield.
