SHAMLI: A local court in Saharanpur district on Friday sentenced a man and his two sons to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 2.40 lakh in a five-year-old deadly assault case.
The incident took place on September 28, 2018, when Mohkam Singh (52) and his two, sons Lalit Kumar and Vinit Kumar, in their mid-20s, attacked two brothers with spades and lathis in Umri Kalan village in Rampur Maniharan region of Saharanpur over a dispute. All three were booked and a charge sheet was filed in the matter.
Divulging details about the matter, additional district government counsel Sanjay Chouhan said that a case was filed by one Naresh Kumar against the three accused at Rampur Maniharan police station for assaulting his two nephews, Amit and Ankit, in their early 20s, over a drain-related dispute in Umri Kalan. Initially, the police had filed a case against all three accused under IPC sections 323 (causing hurt), 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation). However, the charges were later revised and a section on deadly assault was included based on a doctor's report.
Meanwhile, Naresh Kumar told TOI that he is satisfied with the court's decision. He said that even after five years of the incident, his whole family is suffering as Ankit Kumar suffered serious head injuries in the attack and has undergone three operations since, while one major operation is yet to be done.
