A Chicago man previously banned from the FBI’s West Side Chicago headquarters allegedly tried to get in Friday, and assaulted a guard in the process, while carrying an unloaded revolver, ammunition, a knife and a rope, court records show.

Now Joel Rosero faces criminal charges in federal court after allegedly saying he planned to “arrest” someone who “was being rude to and abusing an acquaintance of his,” according to a six-page criminal complaint.

He is due in court for a detention hearing Tuesday.

Rosero, 74, entered a small screening station outside the FBI building in the 2100 block of West Roosevelt Road around 3 p.m. Friday, according to the complaint. A guard there knew him — he was on the no-entry list and his name and photo were posted behind the security counter, records show. He was carrying an olive-green backpack.

After the guard told him to leave, Rosero allegedly said the “boss” said Rosero could enter the FBI complex beyond the screening station. He later identified the boss as the director of the FBI, according to the complaint.

The guard stood in Rosero’s path and told him to move back through a metal detector. Rosero allegedly refused and told the guard she would be fired. Then, when the guard pushed Rosero back through the metal detector to the edge of the security counter, Rosero allegedly grabbed the guard’s left forearm.

The guard forced Rosero to the ground and took out her baton, records show. That’s when Rosero allegedly began kicking the guard in her left leg multiple times. The guard also hit Rosero with her baton, records show.

Other officers soon arrived to help take Rosero into custody, according to the complaint.

Inside his backpack, authorities found an unloaded Smith and Wesson .38-caliber revolver, five rounds of .38-caliber ammunition, a small serrated knife, a rope and $3,170.

Though the guard initially said she had not been injured, she reported Saturday morning that she had pain and swelling in her left lower leg, records show.
