Man tried to truck $2.75m from Adelaide to Sydney in grocery bags, police say

More than $2.75 million in cash stored in grocery bags and a stash of cannabis have been seized in a NSW Police-led search of a truck near Yass.

In a targeted raid, acting on a tip-off, highway patrol officers from Strike Force Raptor intercepted the prime mover in southern NSW about 10:15pm Thursday.

Officers said they approached the truck while it was parked at a service station on Yass Valley Way and spoke with the driver.

A search of the vehicle found five cooler-style shopping bags holding more than $2.75 million in cash, police said.

Officers also allegedly seized an amount of cannabis, a mobile phone and electronic equipment from the truck's cabin for forensic testing, along with the cash.

The driver, a 52-year-old South Australian man, was arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station where he was charged with recklessly dealing with crime proceeds and possessing a prohibited drug.

The man is expected to face Goulburn Local Court on Friday, where police will allege in court that he was transporting the cash between Adelaide and Sydney.

Investigations are continuing.

Established in 2009, Strike Force Raptor targets outlaw motorcycle gangs and associated criminal enterprises.
