A New Hampshire man had to be treated for rabies after he was bitten by a bat that was hiding in his iPad case.

Roy Syvertson, 86, had been using the tablet for about an hour when he felt what he thought was a bee sting on his finger.

But, when he looked down to check he realised that he had actually been bitten by a bat that was wedged between the iPad and its cover.

He told WMUR-TVL he squeezed on the case to keep the creature from flying away.

The bat was found to be rabid and Mr Syvertson was taken to hospital for immediate treatment. (WMUR9)

“I got up, still squeezing it, which I’m sure he wasn’t happy about, and I took him outside.,” he said.

He later went to check on the bat, but it had died, so he called the Department of Fish and Game to get advice about the bite.

The bat was tested and found to be rabid and Mr Syvertson was given treatment for rabies in hospital.

He said he was unsure of how the bat got stuck in his iPad, saying: “It will remain a mystery, and my joke of, “He probably knew my password” won’t last forever. That won’t be funny for a long time.”
