Man treated for burns as almost 20 firefighters battle blaze in Stillorgan, South Dublin

A man has been taken to hospital with burns after a raging house fire broke out in South Dublin this morning.

Almost 20 heroic firefighters rushed to the scene in Stillorgan after the roof area of a house went up in flames.

The inferno broke out around 8.30am this morning and the man was treated on the scene before being taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for the Dublin Fire Brigade said the team had to enter the house with breathing equipment and managed to extinguish the blaze just after 9am.

They said: "At approximately 0830 this morning Firefighters from Dun Laoghaire, Donnybrook and Dolphins Barn attended a domestic house fire in the Stillorgan area.

"The fire was in the roof area of a semi-detached house.

"Firefighting teams using breathing apparatus entered the house and fought the fire.

"There was some damage to the neighbouring house, however the fire was prevented from spreading to it.

"There was one male treated on scene and transported to hospital by an ambulance crew.

"Their injuries are not life-threatening.

"The fire was extinguished by 0905. An Garda Siochana, National Ambulance service and ESB networks also assisted on scene."

They went on to urge everyone to check smoke alarms in every room of their home and to make sure they don't forget about the alarm in their attic.
