Man 'travelled 400 miles on bus with dismembered body parts of woman in suitcases'

A man travelled 400 miles on a bus with dismembered body parts of a woman in three suitcases, police believe.

The family of the man had no idea what was in the bags when he brought them to their house in Markham, Illinois, having travelled five hours from Kentucky, US.

But they became suspicious when after a few days he hadn't unpacked and was guarding the cases.

Then "there were some early reports of a foul odor coming from the bags,” Markham police Chief Terry White said.

The family had collected him from the bus station - with the bags -and taken him to the house.

“That’s even more crazy – traveling body parts,” a neighbour told CBS.

It was on Tuesday morning, when the man left the house to go to the local library, that the family members finally opened one of the suitcases.

“A human body part was discovered,” White said. “They immediately backed away and called police.”

Investigators said the body parts were of one woman and are looking into the horrific case.

The family of the man are said to be co-operating with police while the man remains in custody.
