Man tragically killed in horror head on crash on N7 named locally

A man who was tragically killed in a horror head-on collision on the N7 yesterday morning has been named locally as Anatolie Butucel.

The victim, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene when a car driving down the wrong way of the dual-carriageway smashed into his vehicle shortly after midnight - Dublin Live reports.

It is understood the man had been living in south Dublin but is originally from Moldova.

Three others were injured in the incident also with one of those battling life-threatening injuries.

The Garda Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) has also launched an investigation into the two car collision.

Gardaí said the Volkswagen Passat “came to the attention" of officers when it performed a u-turn a short time earlier.

It is understood a patrol car signalled to the rogue driver to stop, but he quickly accelerated up the wrong side of the N7.

The Passat then smashed into the victim's Toyota Yaris car, which had been driving on the correct side of the road.

One man in his 30s is fighting for his life in Tallaght Hospital while a second man in his late 20s was also taken there with non-life threatening injuries and a third man in his 40s was treated at the scene.

The road was closed overnight for Forensic analysis but was reopened yesterday (Mon) morning as officers continued their investigations into the horror crash.

A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision between two cars on the N7 outbound at Kingswood, Co. Dublin at approximately 12:20am, 21st September.

“A male in his 40s, the driver of one of the vehicles, was pronounced deceased at the scene and has been removed to Dublin City Morgue.

“A male in his 30’s has been taken to Tallaght Hospital with life-threatening injuries and another male in his late 20’s was taken to Tallaght hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

“A male in his 40s was treated at the scene but did not require hospital admittance.”

He added: “As one of the vehicles came to the attention of Gardaí prior to the incident, this matter has been referred to GSOC and investigation are ongoing.”
