Man tragically killed after horror quad bike crash near Mountcharles, Co Donegal named locally

A man tragically died after a collision involving a quad bike in Co Donegal.

The man, in his 40s, was pronounced dead after the single vehicle crash which happened at around 7pm on Sunday.

He has been named locally as Patrick McGinty.

Mr McGinty was taken to Letterkenny Hospital after the collision which took place at Mullinboys near Mountcharles.

The victim suffered serious head injuries and was transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he later passed away.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí in Donegal are investigating a single vehicle, fatal road traffic collision involving a quad bike. The incident occurred on the Sunday 16th June 2019.

"The driver of the quad, a man in his 40s, sustained serious head injuries when he came off the bike while travelling on a local road at Mullinboys near Mountcharles at approximately 7pm.

"He was taken by ambulance to Letterkenny Hospital and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he has since passed away."

A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is being carried out.

Mr McGinty was well-known in the Mountcharles and Inver areas and worked in a local fish factory.

He was a huge Liverpool FC fan.

Tributes have been pouring in on social media for Mr McGinty.
