Man tragically dies in horror afternoon crash on M50

A man has sadly died following a collision on the M50 southbound this afternoon.

The crash happened shortly before 3pm between Junction 12 Firhouse and Junction 13 Ballinteer.

Emergency services raced to busy motorway but were unable to save the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live one lane of traffic remains closed southbound following the collision.

He said: "Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision on the M50 southbound between Junction 12 and 13 which occurred at approximately 2:50pm, this afternoon Tuesday 8th September 2020.

"A male driver has been pronounced dead at the scene.

"Forensic Collision Investigators are at scene and one lane of traffic is currently closed southbound."

Commuters have been advised to avoid the area if possible and use alternative routes.

Dublin Fire Brigade has warned that commuters can expect "severe delays" in the area.

They tweeted: "Severe delays on M50 J12 Firhouse - J13 Ballinteer Southbound as we attend a serious collision. One lane currently closed. Avoid if possible."
