Man tragically dies after fall at Mahon Falls in Comeragh Mountains, Co Waterford

A man has died after falling while walking at Mahon Falls in Co Waterford.

The man, in his 40s, tragically died while at the popular walking area in the Comeragh Mountains.

Coast guard helicopter 117 airlifted the man to University Hospital Waterford where he died on Sunday afternoon.

It's believed he fell from a height and sustained serious head injuries.

A post-mortem examination is to be carried out on the Co Tipperary man on Monday.

Emergency services attended the scene before requesting the help of the Irish Coast Guard.

A garda spokesman told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí are investigating a sudden death incident involving a 40 year old male that occurred at Mahon Falls, Comeragh, Leamybrien, County Waterford at approximately 4.30pm on Sunday 8th September 2019.

"He was airlifted to University Hospital Waterford where he was pronounced dead. A file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court."
