Man tragically dies after being hit by car near Rhode, Co Offaly

A man has tragically died after he was hit by a car in Co Offaly.

The man, in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene on Clonmeen Cross Road near Rhode Village.

Another man, in his 60s, was taken to hospital with injuries after the collision which happened at around 10.50am on Friday.

A spokeswoman said: "Gardaí and Emergency Services are at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

"The road is currently closed and diversions are in place. Forensic Crime Scene Investigators are expected and the local coroner has been notified."

AA Roadwatch said: "Road closure due to serious collision in Rhode."

Gardaí in Tullamore are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the incident and can provide information to contact Tullamore Garda Station on 057 9327600, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
