A man and a child had a lucky escape when a huge wave almost swept them away from the promenade on the Isle of Wight.
Terrifying footage shows the man carrying a child on his back while walking on the seafront at Freshwater Bay during the stormy weather at the weekend.
A wave measuring over ten feet tall comes hitting onshore and knocking the man off his feet in split seconds.
The child falls off the man's back when the pair are being dragged towards the sea.
Passersby are seen rushing to their aid while the man runs to grab the child.
Freshwater Independent Lifeboat coxwain Tony Moore called for warning signs to be posted on the Isle of Wight coast.
He told BBC : "Watch it from a distance - there's no need to go right on the seafront.
"You've got to respect the sea - the power is amazing and it's so dangerous."
RNLI community safety partner Guy Addington added: "People need to be aware that during strong winds parts of our coastline can be treacherous, with a higher risk of large waves sweeping people off their feet and resulting in them being dragged into the sea."
The charity suggested people who find themselves in the water unexpectedly should relax and float on their backs in order to catch their breath.
The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for flooding over the weekend in the southern part of England.
It forecasted large waves and a 'danger to life' during the treacherous weather conditions.
