Man told police he was 'excessively revving his engine' because he had eaten 'dodgy food'

A driver told police officers that he was 'excessively revving his engine' because he'd eaten 'some dodgy food and needed the toilet'.

He was caught revving, wheel-spinning, and driving through a red light on Wilmslow Road in South Manchester yesterday (Saturday, December 4).

Greater Manchester Police for Longsight and Moss Side pointed out that this was all during 'poor weather conditions.'.

But of course, it was the excuse given to officers that was the most unusual.

"His excuse? He's eaten some dodgy food and needed the toilet," officers said in a Facebook post.

"He miraculously recovered when officers pointed out his house was in the opposite direction."

Officers issued the driver with a traffic offence penalty notice and was warned that next time he drives like that his car will be taken away.

GMP Longsight and Moss Side said: "Driver excessively revving his engine on Wilmslow Road, wheel-spinning, and then went through a red light - all in poor weather conditions.

"TOR issued, and driver warned under s59 Police Reform Act. Next time he drives like that, we’ll take his car!"

Khairul Alam said in a comment below the post: "This kind of revving is too common on Wilmslow Road. Hopefully the driver has learnt a lesson!"
