Man told he was too fat for rollercoaster loses five stone with Slimming World

A man told he was too big to ride on a rollercoaster lost five stone and has been named Slimming World's 2023 Mr Sleek.

Joe Thompson, 35, was told to get off a rollercoaster after the safety harness wouldn't close around his belly, when he weighed 19 stone.

The former yo-yo dieter has since made a drastic lifestyle change to be able to scale new heights.

He lost five stone and eight inches off his 40-inch waist and kept it off for over a year, earning him a national weight loss award.

Joe has been dubbed Slimming World's 2023 Mr Sleek after attending the group to help him with his rollercoaster challenge.

He said his low point was being told to get off the Colossus ride at Thorpe Park in Surrey.

He said: "I couldn’t fasten the safety harness on the Colossus ride. I had to get off and walk past a queue of people, who I’m sure all knew exactly why I couldn’t ride.

"I tried to brush it off, but inside I was completely mortified.”
