Man told 'go back to your own country' by screaming Aldi shopper in vile racist rant

A delivery driver was on his dinner hour in Aldi when he was subjected to vile racist abuse from another customer.

Lewis Munday, 22, was called a "p***" and the N word and told "go back to your own country", by a screaming man in the store at Trident Retail and Leisure Park in Runcorn on Wednesday, April 21.

The 22-year-old, from Widnes, said he went to the store at around 3pm to pick up a pasta pot and a loaf of bread when he heard the man arguing with staff at the till.

Lewis said he "didn't really pay any attention to it" and carried on with his shopping before taking his items to the checkout.

But as he got to the till, Lewis said the man pointed at him and two other customers and said in turn, "you're not English, you're not English and you're not English."

He told the ECHO: "I got called a p***, a dirty p*** Muslim, a w**, told to go back to my own country and that I'm not English.

"He tried to walk off and I've followed him with some of the staff from Aldi and he's gone up the escalator at Shopping City and he was just outside Subway when police ran up behind him."

Lewis, who was left "stunned" by what happened, said he helped to restrain the man before he was arrested by officers.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Police said: "Police located the man and he was arrested on suspicion of assault, public order and resisting arrest.

"The 60-year-old has since been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue."

It wasn't until after the incident that Lewis said he had time to process what had happened.

He said: "It caught me off guard to be honest, it just never happens.

"It upset me. I ended up taking the rest of the day off."
