The boyfriend of Ju "Kelly" Zhang, found dead in a Melbourne landfill, will stand trial after pleading not guilty to her murder.

Joon Seong Tan, 35, has been charged with killing Ms Zhang, 33, on February 1, when the mother of an eight-year-old boy was last seen at her Epping home.

Police confirmed Ms Zhang's remains had been found at a Wollert landfill on June 23.

Tan appeared before Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to murder.

He was initially taken into custody six days after Ms Zhang's disappearance, but released without charge pending further police inquiries.

The accused killer was arrested for a second time at Melbourne Airport on February 10.

Prosecutors earlier said more than 3000 hours of CCTV need analysing as part of the investigation.

Tan remains in custody and will next face the Victorian Supreme Court for a directions hearing on December 16.
